THE 5 MOST OVERLOOKED CHILD SAFETY HAZARDS IN YOUR HOME
- An Audio or video MONITOR CORD that runs right down the side of your child’s crib where they can grab it and get tangled while you’re not even there!
The only time your child is unsupervised is when you THINK they are asleep. Don’t leave ANYTHING within the reach of their crib while you are preparing dinner or answering e-mails. You never know if they actually are asleep.
- Cooking on your stoves FRONT BURNER in a pot that you just CONDITIONED your child to think is theirs, because they were just playing with it on the floor. Well, it’s the same pot and now it’s HOT!
- SHOEBOXES hold a treat. Chances are they contain a small silica gel packet in each one. This is POISON. Get rid of them!
- Your DISHWASHER. Forget locking. I find that in most cases they are not even clicked closed. Children love to help. We don’t need any help putting away the steak knives, do we?
Even more importantly, remnants of Cascade are often times found in the now open dispenser. One finger dip in the mouth and it’s 911. I can’t even hint here as to what has happened to others.
- CLUTTER. Clutter is a tripping hazard. When you hold a child it creates a blind spot. I know! My mother-in-law fell while carrying my son when he was 1.
What about CLUTTER ON THE STAIRS? Most people have a little pile of shoes or things they want taken upstairs on their next trip. Funny how it just kind of stays there.
CLUTTER contains paper clips, loose change, bobby pins, etc.
These are all choking hazards. We’ll say no more
